BUSINESS OBJECTIVE

Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) is a global leader in creating innovative rigid and flexible  plastic packaging solutions. kp’s Food Packaging division recognised that a changing market and consumer landscape was creating a myriad of challenges to its business.  The team identified a need to strengthen its innovation portfolio with the potential to disrupt to meet its customers’ future needs and to continue to sustainably grow its business.

Setting consumer parameters for disruptive innovation...

In this collaborative project managed by our associates at Ignite Exponential, Dandelion Insights designed and led a foundational research program in the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Poland :

Conceptual Profiling: Conducted in-depth consumer interviews to understand how consumers define freshness, their purchasing habits, and the perceived role of packaging in fresh food.

Preference Mapping: Identified key consumer preferences for packaging materials and features, focusing on sustainability, convenience, and freshness.

Experience Mapping: Explored the consumer journey from purchase to disposal, uncovering pain points and unmet needs in how consumers store, use, and dispose of fresh food packaging.

Consumer-Led Foresight: Explored consumer expectations, predictions and ideas about the future of plastic packaging in general and in the context of fresh food.

Ideation & Concept Design: Based on the foundational insights from our research, our partners at Ignite Exponential led an innovation workshop to generate disruptive ideas based on unmet consumer needs, sustainability concerns, and packaging functionality.

Innovation Opportunities: By bringing insights, ideas and concepts together we identified white spaces in the fresh food packaging market, particularly around plastic packaging solutions, to fuel the innovation pipeline.

KP prioritised two key opportunities from our strategic innovation pipeline and is currently developing those concepts further, setting the stage for impactful product launches that will drive growth and meet future customer needs.
